The committee tasked with replacing Public Protector Thuli Madonsela has whittled down the number of candidates to just 14 names.<\/p>\n

The nomination process opened on 3 June and closed on 24 June 2016 – with the committee receiving a total of 73 nominations and applications, which was short-listed to 59 candidates.<\/p>\n

The 14 nominated candidates are as follows:<\/p>\n

  2. Justice Sharise Weiner<\/li>\n
  3. Adv Kevin Sifiso Malunga (Current deputy public protector<\/em>)<\/li>\n
  4. Adv Mamiki Goodman<\/li>\n
  5. Busisiwe Mkhwebane (former director at the Department of home affairs<\/em>)<\/li>\n
  6. Jill Claudelle Oliphant<\/li>\n
  7. Michael Mthembu<\/li>\n
  8. Prof Narnia Bohler-Muller<\/li>\n
  9. Adv William Andrew Hofmeyr (deputy director of Public Prosecution<\/em>)<\/li>\n
  10. Adv Nonkosi Princess Cetywayo (Sheriff of Belville High Court<\/em>)<\/li>\n
  11. Bongani Majola<\/li>\n
  12. Kaajal Ramjathan-Keogh (executive director of the Southern Africa Litigation Centr<\/span>e<\/em>)<\/li>\n
  13. Muvhango Lukhaimane (Pension Funds Adjudicator<\/em>)<\/li>\n
  14. Adv Chris Madibeng Mokoditwa<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The ANC nominated Western Cape High Court Judge Siraj Desai to take over from Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela.<\/p>\n

    The DA however, questioned the choice, citing that Desai is known to deliver judgments more than two years after the matter was heard.<\/p>\n

    Candidates will have approximately 40 minutes to sell themselves to the committee during the interview process, to be held on 11 August 2016.<\/p>\n
