Bloomberg has released its latest billionaire’s index for 2016, showing that Amazon founder and chief, Jeff Bezos, has crept past investor Warren Buffett<\/a><\/strong> to become the third richest man in the world.<\/p>\n

With a fortune of $65.05 billion, Bezos is richer than Buffett by a ‘mere’ $32 million – but his position is strengthening, according to Bloomberg, as Amazon’s stock is targetted to hit $1,000 a share, which could catapult Bezos to number two in the world.<\/p>\n

Microsoft founder Bill Gates remains the richest man in the world, with a net worth of $89 billion; this is followed by\u00a0Inditex SA founder Amancio Ortega with $73 billion.<\/p>\n

Warren Buffett’s drop to fourth place isn’t due to poor investment choices, but is rather chalked up to his philanthropy, having donated $2.2 billion of his fortune to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation earlier in the year.<\/p>\n

These are the 10 richest people in the world, according to Bloomberg.<\/p>\n

Only one South Africa cracks a nod on the index – retail mogul Christo Wiese, who has a net worth of $6.9 billion, according to the index, ranked 184th out of the top 200 billionaires covered.<\/p>\n
