An expected 15,000 workers in the petroleum industry are to take to the streets to strike for a 9% wage increase. Sasol said it has put contingency plans in place to protect customers and employees, while it monitors the situation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>South Africa&#8217;s rand traded slightly firmer against the dollar on Wednesday as investors speculated that the Federal Reserve would signal low rates for longer in the United States, boosting demand for high-yielding emerging markets. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.xe.com\/currencycharts\/?from=USD&amp;to=ZAR\">On Thursday the rand was at R14.22 to the dollar, R18.76 to the pound and R15.77 to the euro<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In global news:\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/af.reuters.com\/article\/southAfricaNews\/idAFL8N1AE0Q4?sp=true\">Asian stocks were mostly lower on Thursday as Chinese equities deepened their losses<\/a><\/strong>, souring risk sentiment that had improved earlier after the Federal Reserve provided a positive assessment of the U.S. economy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-global-oil-idUSKCN108066\">Oil prices recovered slightly from April lows in early trading on Thursday, but the outlook for the industry remained weak<\/a><\/strong> as crude producers and fuel refiners continue to pump out more than the market can consume.\u00a0Brent crude futures were trading at $43.61, up 14 cents.
