If it wasn’t for the ANC’s internal troubles in the Western Cape, the party would have made a clean sweep in the province over the Democratic Alliance, acting African National Congress chairperson in the Western Cape Dipuo Letsie-Dube said on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Infighting “overwhelmed” the party for a while but that has now settled and the campaigning is going well, she said on the side-lines of a visit to Silvertown, Paarl, by ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa.<\/p>\n
“Had we had a proper strategy, I’m telling you, we would have surprised the DA,” she said.<\/p>\n
“They are at their weakest.”<\/p>\n
She is confident though that the party will retain its wards and increase its support in the metro.<\/p>\n
Letsie-Dube stepped in after Marius Fransman was asked to step aside after allegations that he sexually assaulted a young woman.<\/p>\n
Fransman denies this and is battling to get his job back, going as far as making a court application.<\/p>\n
Faiez Jacobs, the ANC secretary in the province, was also on the campaign trail in the muddy streets.<\/p>\n
Jacobs was eventually allowed to return to work after being found guilty by the party\u2019s national disciplinary committee of assaulting a researcher.<\/p>\n
The ANC has also had to deal with infighting over candidate lists.<\/p>\n
