Rapport claims that a new quota system is set to be implemented within South Africa’s national cricket team, the Proteas.<\/p>\n
Last week the board of directors of Cricket South Africa (CSA) approved in principle a decision to introduce targets for all national teams.<\/p>\n
All franchise teams taking part in the country’s domestic league were required to field a minimum of six players of colour in their starting XIs, including three black African players last season.<\/p>\n
And according to Rapport, the board of CSA has discussed the possibility of having a quota of six players of colour in the national team, while \u201cat least two must be black African\u201d, a source told the Afrikaans weekly.<\/p>\n
The Proteas last competitive match was in June – a 100-run loss to the West Indies in a\u00a0 Tri-Nation One-Day International (ODI) match at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.<\/p>\n
The team comprised six players of colour, but only one black African – Kagiso Rabada – who last week became the first player to win six individual trophies at the annual Cricket South Africa (CSA) awards.<\/p>\n
