{"id":132477,"date":"2016-08-04T14:05:29","date_gmt":"2016-08-04T12:05:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=132477"},"modified":"2016-08-04T14:25:18","modified_gmt":"2016-08-04T12:25:18","slug":"da-leads-election-race-to-joburg-as-township-voters-stay-away-from-the-polls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/132477\/da-leads-election-race-to-joburg-as-township-voters-stay-away-from-the-polls\/","title":{"rendered":"DA leads election race for Joburg as township voters stay away from the polls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Opposition party, the Democratic Alliance (DA) was leading the ANC in Johannesburg, with just under a third (32%) of the city\u2019s votes counted, according to statistics from the IEC shortly after lunch on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The DA was ahead in the city with 43.3% of the vote, followed by the ANC (41.1%) and the EFF (9.9%).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.news24.com\/elections\/news\/da-anc-neck-and-neck-in-joburg-20160804\" target=\"_blank\">News24 <\/a>elections analyst Dawie Scholtz told News24 it was unlikely that any political party could secure more than 50% of the vote in Johannesburg.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The question is: Who is going to be the biggest party &#8211; it&#8217;s probably going to be the ANC by the looks of the numbers,\u201d Scholtz said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The question is whether DA plus EFF will reach 50%. I think that will be very tight.
