{"id":133728,"date":"2016-08-18T19:25:49","date_gmt":"2016-08-18T17:25:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=133728"},"modified":"2016-08-18T17:26:00","modified_gmt":"2016-08-18T15:26:00","slug":"cape-town-traffic-is-worse-than-joburg-index","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/lifestyle\/133728\/cape-town-traffic-is-worse-than-joburg-index\/","title":{"rendered":"Cape Town traffic is worse than Joburg: index"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cape Town has been ranked as the worst city in South Africa for traffic congestion &#8211; and ranks among the top 50 worst cities in the world, according to the latest Tom Tom Traffic Index.<\/p>\n<p>The TomTom Traffic Index is published to provide drivers, industry and policy makers with unbiased information about congestion levels in urban areas.<\/p>\n<p>Now in its 5th year,\u00a0the 2016 edition of the index now includes 295 cities in 38 countries.<\/p>\n<p>Previous findings from Tom Tom in 2015 showed that\u00a0Cape Town\u00a0had become the\u00a0most congested city in South Africa, where motorists spend as much as 11 days a year sitting in traffic.<\/p>\n<p>Tom Tom divisional manager for Sub-Saharan Africa Daan Hendricks said travel times in Cape Town had increased exponentially over the years, with commuters needing to add about 27% to their travel times. In the 2016 findings, this has increased to 30%<\/p>\n<p>The only other South African city to be ranked was Johannesburg, which is ranked 77th overall, with 27% additional travel time required &#8211;
