{"id":133810,"date":"2016-08-20T12:30:20","date_gmt":"2016-08-20T10:30:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=133810"},"modified":"2016-08-19T17:36:08","modified_gmt":"2016-08-19T15:36:08","slug":"the-most-and-least-liveable-cities-in-the-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/133810\/the-most-and-least-liveable-cities-in-the-world\/","title":{"rendered":"The most and least liveable cities in the world"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Economist Intelligence Unit has released its ranking of the 10 most and least liveable cities in the world &#8211; highlighting the best and worst living conditions in countries across the globe.<\/p>\n<p>The concept of liveability is\u00a0to\u00a0assess which locations around the world provide the best\u00a0or the worst living conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Assessing liveability has a broad range of uses, from benchmarking\u00a0perceptions of development levels to assigning a hardship allowance as part of expatriate relocation<br \/>\npackages.<\/p>\n<p>The Economist Intelligence Unit\u2019s liveability rating quantifies the challenges that might be<br \/>\npresented to an individual\u2019s lifestyle in any given location, and allows for direct comparison between\u00a0locations.<\/p>\n<p>According to the group, Melbourne, Australia is the most liveable city in the world with an ideal living score of\u00a097.5 (where 100 is perfect). For qualitative\u00a0indicators, a rating is awarded based on the judgment of in-house analysts\u00a0and in-city contributors.<\/p>\n<p>For quantitative indicators, a rating is calculated\u00a0based on the relative\u00a0performance of a number of external data points, the EIU said.<\/p>\n<p>According to the EIU, terrorism and war have had a major impact on the stability of affected cities, and global stability in general.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The continuing weakening of global stability scores has been made uncomfortably apparent by a\u00a0number of high-profile incidents that have not shown any signs of slowing in recent years.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Violent acts\u00a0of terrorism have been reported in many countries, including Turkey, Australia, Bangladesh, Pakistan,\u00a0France, Belgium and the US.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This has been a year undoubtedly marked by terrorism. While not a new\u00a0phenomenon, its frequency and spread have increased noticeably and become even more prominent in\u00a0the past year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Terrorism has also been compounded by unrest and, in more extreme cases, civil war in some\u00a0countries.
