SABC acting CEO James Aguma wants to pay COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng a bonus for negotiating a deal between the SABC and MultiChoice three years ago.<\/p>\n
According to a report in the Sunday Times, Aguma said\u00a0Motsoeneng must be paid the bonus for\u00a0\u201csingle-handedly\u201d negotiating the contract.<\/p>\n
The five-year deal between the SABC and MultiChoice sees the public broadcaster supplying DStv with a 24-hour news channel, entertainment channel Encore, and access to the SABC\u2019s archives.<\/p>\n
The contract was signed for R570 million in 2013, but industry sources told the newspaper that the SABC was being \u201cgrossly underpaid\u201d.<\/p>\n
The report stated that E.tv receives R400 million a year for its 24-hour news channel, meaning the SABC is being \u201crobbed\u201d of R2 billion over five years.<\/p>\n
The report stated that Aguma sent a letter to the SABC\u2019s chairman stating that the broadcaster owes\u00a0Motsoeneng \u201ccompensation for the success of the existing contract\u201d.<\/p>\n
He added that\u00a0Motsoeneng should be involved in negotiations to extend the MultiChoice contract, which expires in 2018, as the COO \u201cholds the key to the success of this endeavour\u201d.<\/p>\n
