The fate of the the city &#8211; and current mayor Parks Tau &#8211; rests in the hands of the EFF, which has the power to swing the vote on favour of the ANC or DA. The party has stated it will vote for DA candidate, Herman Mashaba.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.timeslive.co.za\/thetimes\/2016\/08\/22\/Crybaby-Lynsey-dissed-on-Twitter\">Team South Africa is returning from Rio victorious, having nailed its 10-medal goal with Caster Semenya comfortably winning gold in the ladies&#8217; 800m on Sunday<\/a><\/strong>. Semenya&#8217;s victory was not without controversy, which constantly follows the star athlete due to her\u00a0hyperandrogenism.\u00a0The International Athletics Federation is pushing to have her &#8211; and athletes like her &#8211; disallowed from competing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>South Africa&#8217;s rand retreated for a third consecutive\u00a0session on Friday to its weakest level in a week against the\u00a0dollar while stocks also fell, both assets pressured by\u00a0signs the U.S. central bank could still lift rates this\u00a0year. \u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.xe.com\/currencycharts\/?from=USD&amp;to=ZAR\">On Monday, the rand was trading at R13.59 to the dollar R17.72 to the pound and R15.33 to the euro<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In global news, \u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/af.reuters.com\/article\/southAfricaNews\/idAFL8N1B3097\">Asian shares slipped on Monday and the dollar pulled away\u00a0from last week&#8217;s lows on expectations<\/a><\/strong> that a signal might\u00a0emerge from a Federal Reserve gathering this week in Jackson\u00a0Hole, Wyoming that the U.S. central bank is gearing up to\u00a0hike interest rates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-global-oil-idUSKCN10X01C\">Oil prices fell on Monday as analysts doubted upcoming\u00a0producer talks would rein in oversupply, saying that Brent\u00a0would likely fall back below $50 a barrel<\/a><\/strong> as August&#8217;s more\u00a0than 20-percent crude rally looks overblown.\u00a0Brent crude was\u00a0trading at $50.22 per barrel, down 66 cents,while\u00a0U.S. crude\u00a0was down 51 cents at $48.01 a barrel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>In other news:<\/strong> T<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bdlive.co.za\/business\/healthcare\/2016\/08\/22\/state-medical-aid-may-go-bust\">he government&#8217;s medical aid scheme (GEMS) is at risk of going bust as it looks set to increase its deficit for 2016 to R1.2 billion.<\/a><\/strong> This has drastic implications for its 1.8 million-plus members who face changes to benefits as the scheme will need a government bailout.
