Telkom<\/a> says it has won leave to appeal the Supreme Court of Appeal against an interdict which was brought by ZTE Mzansi<\/a> in March 2012.<\/p>\n

The granting of the original interdict to ZTE Mzanzi effectively stalled the deployment of Telkom\u2019s MSAN<\/a> (Multi Service Access Node) project, which promised to bring high speed Internet services to residential users.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are pleased that we can now continue the implementation of our access network revamp,\u201d said Bashier Sallie<\/a>, managing director of wholesale & networks at Telkom in a statement on Wednesday (23 May).<\/p>\n

Sallie said \u00a0Telkom will no longer face undue delays in the rollout of the project.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe MSANs will enable quality high speed broadband access using VDSL<\/a>, VDSL2+ and xPON<\/a> which will enhance the broadband experience for our customers,\u201d Sallie said.<\/p>\n

Mzanzi’s case<\/strong><\/p>\n

ZTE Mzansi, a joint venture between China\u2019s ZTE Corp and local black-owned companies, took Telkom to court in March 2012, after being disqualified from a bidding process related to the project.<\/p>\n

This action shifted a wedge between ZTE Corp and ZTE Mzanzi, with the former subsequently taking action against the company.<\/p>\n

ZTE South Africa CEO, Cris Fuentes<\/a> said at the time that the court case was brought against ZTE Mzanzi because the company had engaged in litigation against Telkom SA without consulting the group \u2013 an action which Feuntes said was \u201ccontrary to the agreement\u201d entered into by the partnership.<\/p>\n

ZTE Corp subsequently dropped ZTE Mzanzi as its partner company in South Africa.<\/p>\n
