The pump price for a litre of petrol will be 18 cents cheaper for all grades from next Wednesday, according to a statement from the Department of Energy.<\/p>\n
The DoE also announced that the price of diesel 0.05% sulphur and diesel 0.005% sulphur will decrease by 48 cents and 49 cents a litre respectively.<\/p>\n
The department said that the main reasons for the fuel price adjustments include the strengthening of the rand against the US dollar during the period under review which cushioned the fuel prices by about 22 cents per litre.<\/p>\n
It also pointed to the increase in the prices of petrol and decrease in the prices of diesel, on average, in the international markets during the period under review.<\/p>\n
The Basic Fuel Price (BFP) of diesel decreased by about 6 cents while that of petrol increased by about 25 cents during the same period.<\/p>\n
“This could explain why the diesel over recovery is higher than the petrol over recovery. The overall effect on the fuel prices locally has been outweighed by the strengthening of the rand to the US dollar,” the DoE said.<\/p>\n
The Department of Energy also announced that illuminating paraffin (wholesale) will cost 47 cents a litre cheaper and illuminating paraffin (SMNRP) 63 cents cheaper.<\/p>\n
The maximum retail price for LPGAS will decrease by 9 cents per kg.<\/p>\n
