{"id":136475,"date":"2016-09-13T11:07:02","date_gmt":"2016-09-13T09:07:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=136475"},"modified":"2016-09-13T11:07:02","modified_gmt":"2016-09-13T09:07:02","slug":"nkandla-saga-has-been-put-to-rest-anc-womens-league","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/136475\/nkandla-saga-has-been-put-to-rest-anc-womens-league\/","title":{"rendered":"Nkandla saga has been put to rest: ANC Women&#8217;s League"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By paying the R7.8m, as directed by the Constitutional Court, President Jacob Zuma has laid the Nkandla debacle to rest, the ANC Women\u2019s League believes.<\/p>\n<p>The ANCWL on Tuesday applauded Zuma for complying with the order, as well as using a black-owned bank to pay for the Nkandla upgrades.<\/p>\n<p>This after the Presidency on Monday confirmed that Zuma had paid the R7.8m for the non-security upgrades to his Nkandla homestead, with funds raised through a home loan from VBS Mutual Bank.<\/p>\n<p>National Treasury in June submitted a report to the Constitutional Court on how much Zuma had to pay.<\/p>\n<p>In its judgment on March 31, the Constitutional Court ordered Treasury to determine the &#8220;reasonable amount&#8221; Zuma should repay.<\/p>\n<p>The costs included upgrades to the so-called firepool, the amphitheatre and the kraal.<\/p>\n<p>ANCWL\u2019s Meokgo Matuba said Zuma\u2019s confidence in supporting black-owned businesses was humbling.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Whilst detractors claim to be the paragon of respect to the Constitution, they have no political programme except attacking President Zuma and will still be clinching on Nkandla matter. It is our conviction as the ANCWL that the matter has been laid to rest,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>She called on members and supporters to continue working towards making the ANC a &#8220;more effective instrument for the liberation of our people and unreservedly defend the unity and integrity of the organisation&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The Women\u2019s League also called for Zuma to address land ownership.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is high time that the economic freedom is achieved and the landless Africans get their land back which was stolen as far back as 1652.
