{"id":137163,"date":"2016-09-19T09:31:23","date_gmt":"2016-09-19T07:31:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=137163"},"modified":"2016-09-19T09:31:23","modified_gmt":"2016-09-19T07:31:23","slug":"tshwane-mayor-to-investigate-r4-billion-in-anc-tenders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/137163\/tshwane-mayor-to-investigate-r4-billion-in-anc-tenders\/","title":{"rendered":"Tshwane mayor to investigate R4 billion in ANC tenders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DA mayor in Tshwane, Solly Msimanga, will investigate R4 billion in tenders initiated under the former ANC administrations.<\/p>\n<p>Msimanga told<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/ewn.co.za\/2016\/09\/19\/City-of-Tshwane-to-investigate-suspicious-tenders-granted-under-previous-administration\"> EWN<\/a><\/strong> that his administration would probe all suspicious tenders that were put out under the ANC, starting with four tenders worth R4 billion &#8211; with more expected to follow.<\/p>\n<p>The Tshwane mayor dropped a bomb on the former ANC administration early September by laying criminal charges against senior officials.<\/p>\n<p>The charges relate to two forensic reports, detailing corruption, fraud, and misuse of more than R90 million of public money in two projects of the City\u2019s previous leadership: City Hall and the Mayoral Residence.<\/p>\n<p>The new probes relate to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A R3 billion smart meter tender;<\/li>\n<li>A R380 million Wi-Fi contract;<\/li>\n<li>A R300 million vehicle fleet contract;\u00a0and<\/li>\n<li>A R200 million broadband contract.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>According to EWN, if any problems are found in these tender processes, the Tshwane government will renegotiate or even cancel the contracts..<\/p>\n<p>Msimanga announced last week that he would open all future tender processes to root out any potential corruption involved in deals with government.<\/p>\n<p>Investigations by Carte Blanche and Noseweek revealed a patronage network of over 40,000 suppliers in Tshwane, in which small companies were acting as middle-men to supply the municipality with items at a substantial markup.<\/p>\n<p>Items such as lightbulbs were being sold at triple the price.
