The ANC is antagonising the Independent Electoral Commission over certain actions taken during the 2016 elections, while secretary general Gwede Mantashe and his deputy Jessie Duarte have reportedly lashed out at IEC vice-chairman Terry Tselane, branding him an enemy.<\/p>\n
This is according to a report by the City Press, which details emails and other correspondence seen be the paper, between Tselane and other IEC officials.<\/p>\n
In the emails, Tselane tells of how he is is being followed and photographed and threatened by individuals within the ANC. Tselane alleges that he is being victimised by the party, but specifically by Mantashe and Duarte.<\/p>\n
Mantashe denied any bullying tactics.<\/p>\n
According to the report, the ANC is unhappy that some ANC-aligned electoral officers were not selected by the IEC to oversee the August Elections. The party blames Tselane for that outcome, accusing him of being the one to make the order.<\/p>\n
Tselane says he was accused by Manatashe of being a mouthpiece for opposition parties and that the ANC is concerned about his conduct, and that the party has been ‘observing a trend’ with him.<\/p>\n
According to the City Press, there are concerns within the IEC that the ANC will try to exert influence over the group, wanting a less independent body as it continues to show a decline at the polls.<\/p>\n
