{"id":138151,"date":"2016-09-27T09:20:33","date_gmt":"2016-09-27T07:20:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=138151"},"modified":"2016-09-27T09:20:33","modified_gmt":"2016-09-27T07:20:33","slug":"massive-fee-hike-for-momentum-medical-aid-members","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/banking\/138151\/massive-fee-hike-for-momentum-medical-aid-members\/","title":{"rendered":"Massive fee hike for Momentum medical aid members"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Momentum Health, <span class=\"st\">a division of MMI Group<\/span>, has joined Discovery Health in hiking its fees in 2017 &#8211; by an average of 11%.<\/p>\n<p>The country&#8217;s biggest open market medical aid scheme, Discovery Health, announced earlier this month that it is raising its prices by an average of 10.2% next year.<\/p>\n<p>According to Momentum, <strong>fees will increase by\u00a08.9% to 15.0% across its products<\/strong> next year, while it plans to introduce tighter restrictions on benefits.<\/p>\n<p>Like Discovery, Momentum has felt the impact of a strained year for the entire medical aid and medical services industry, where it experienced an increase in claims, as more and more people signed up for private healthcare.<\/p>\n<p>Discovery has attributed the rise in claims to more people being admitted to hospitals, using more scheme benefits, abuse, fraud and wastage.
