The Democratic Alliance’s Gauteng branch says it has managed to put as many as 29 fire trucks back on the road in less than a month.<\/p>\n

According to the DA,\u00a0when the city was still being run by the ANC, only eight of 28 fire stations in the city had working fire engines. The trucks had been waiting for repairs ‘for years’ the party said.<\/p>\n

“Joburg has been plagued by a critical shortage of fire engines for years. The previous administration did nothing to address this,” it said.<\/p>\n

In August, IOL<\/a> reported that a critical shortage of fire engines in the City of Joburg was increasingly putting the lives of residents in danger.<\/p>\n

The DA said that its shadow minister of public safety, Michael Sun, identified the need for urgent action in September, and less than a month later, 29 fire trucks have left various workshops – after ‘rusting away for years’.<\/p>\n
