Empowerdex, South Africa’s leading barometer of black empowerment among JSE-listed companies, has published its top 100 list for 2016.<\/p>\n

The latest survey shows African Equity Empowerment Investments (AEEI) tops the list as the most empowered listed company.<\/p>\n

Business Report, which partnered with Empowerdex for the survey, noted that this is the first year that AEEI qualifies to be in the main rankings of the survey because it was previously classified as a qualifying small enterprise (now termed exempt micro-enterprises).<\/p>\n

AEEI\u2019s total BEE score of 102.47 points puts it ahead of Oceana Group (last year\u2019s winner), which scored 97.82 points.<\/p>\n

The 2016 rankings differ from before in that many companies have converted to the revised 2013 Codes of Good Practice, while others are still operating under the 2007 codes.<\/p>\n

Based on the 2007 Codes of Good Practice, Vodacom SA has the best score with 98.25 points, followed by Nedbank with 97.34 points.<\/p>\n

The results, released in partnership with Independent Media\u2019s business publication Business Report, and specialist research and media house Intellidex, were announced at a special function in Johannesburg on Thursday night.<\/p>\n
