{"id":14006,"date":"2012-05-30T01:29:35","date_gmt":"2012-05-29T23:29:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=14006"},"modified":"2012-05-30T09:39:43","modified_gmt":"2012-05-30T07:39:43","slug":"spacex-signs-first-contract-for-new-rocket","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/14006\/spacex-signs-first-contract-for-new-rocket\/","title":{"rendered":"SpaceX signs first contract for new rocket"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"SpaceX - Space Exploration Technologies Corporation\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2554-SpaceX\">Space Exploration Technologies<\/a> says it has signed its first commercial contract for a new rocket that will be more powerful than the one that launched the company&#8217;s Dragon capsule to the International Space Station last week.<\/p>\n<p>The Hawthorne, California company known as SpaceX said Tuesday it will loft a satellite for the communications services company Intelsat, using a Falcon Heavy launch vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Such launches cost $83 million to $128 million, depending on weight.<\/p>\n<p>SpaceX says its Falcon Heavy will be the most powerful rocket in the world and, historically, second only to the Saturn V rockets that launched the Apollo missions to the moon.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, SpaceX launched a cargo-carrying capsule atop its Falcon 9 rocket as a test run for <a title=\"NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/387397-NASA-National-Aeronautics-and-Space-Administration\">NASA<\/a>.
