Telkom said it plans to provide mobile data services to students who cannot access academic materials due to the ongoing student protests.<\/p>\n
The company said many universities have made lecture and study material available online while campuses are closed to students.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis may result in further anxiety for students who\u2026 must now find additional funds to purchase the data needed to access the materials,\u201d said Telkom.<\/p>\n
Telkom will offer a solution which will allow universities to offer\u00a0free access to academic materials.<\/p>\n
\u201cTelkom\u2019s Reverse Bill URL service allows students using a Telkom mobile prepaid or postpaid SIM card to access content on a university website without paying for data consumption.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cStudents accessing academic material via Telkom ISP will also benefit from free data as Telkom already zero rates this traffic.\u201d<\/p>\n
Telkom said universities would normally have to pay for the data charges, but it has decided to \u201cwaive the data consumption costs until the end of the academic year\u201d.<\/p>\n
