{"id":141115,"date":"2016-10-24T13:21:55","date_gmt":"2016-10-24T11:21:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=141115"},"modified":"2016-10-24T13:21:55","modified_gmt":"2016-10-24T11:21:55","slug":"van-rooyen-wants-legal-action-over-claims-he-used-staff-for-academic-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/141115\/van-rooyen-wants-legal-action-over-claims-he-used-staff-for-academic-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Van Rooyen wants legal action over claims he used staff for academic work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Four-day finance minister Des van Rooyen is seeking legal advice\u00a0to take action against reports that he used staff from the\u00a0Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO) to complete his academic assignments.<\/p>\n<p>According to <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.businesslive.co.za\/bd\/national\/2016-10-20-van-rooyens-academic-work-under-scrutiny\/\">a report published by Business Day<\/a><\/strong>, a single, unnamed staff member from the PBO made a submission to the Public Protector\u2019s office, under oath, that at least two other staff members disclosed to them that van Rooyen tasked them with completing his academic assignments.<\/p>\n<p>This happened between 2014 and 2015, the submitted letter said. The document forms part of a CCMA complaint lodged by the staff member in question, alleging that they were overlooked for promotion because they refused to do van Rooyen\u2019s academic work for him<\/p>\n<p>According to van Rooyen, the accusation is baseless and are simply a means to discredit him.
