US News & World Report have released the 2016\/17 edition of the Best Global Universities (BGU) ranking – featuring a list of the top institutions in South Africa.<\/p>\n

Each institution was evaluated based on its research performance and its ratings by members of the academic community around the world and in the region.<\/p>\n

The methodology is based on data and metrics provided by Thomson Reuters InCitesTM research analytics solutions, and weighs factors that measure a university\u2019s global and regional reputation; academic research performance using bibliometric indicators; and school-level data on faculty and Ph.D. graduates.<\/p>\n

In the 2016 rankings, South Africa again dominated the top of the rankings for Africa, with 9 instutions being ranked in the top 20.<\/p>\n

The University of Cape Town again ranked top in the country and the continent, having improved its global positioning to 112th in the world, up from 162nd in 2015.<\/p>\n

Wits follows UCT, with the University of KwaZulu Natal shooting past Stellenbosch University to be ranked third in the country.<\/p>\n
