{"id":142409,"date":"2016-11-06T08:24:29","date_gmt":"2016-11-06T06:24:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=142409"},"modified":"2016-11-06T08:34:51","modified_gmt":"2016-11-06T06:34:51","slug":"sa-finance-minister-to-be-charged-again-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/142409\/sa-finance-minister-to-be-charged-again-report\/","title":{"rendered":"SA Finance Minister to be charged again \u2013 Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan will be charged for establishing a \u201crogue unit\u201d in the\u00a0South African Revenue Service in 2007, according to a report by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.news24.com\/SouthAfrica\/News\/exclusive-pravin-to-be-charged-again-20161106-2\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>City Press<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0Gordhan was the commissioner of Sars at the time.<\/p>\n<p>This comes after the National Prosecuting Authority recently dropped charges of fraud against Gordhan.<\/p>\n<p>The report stated that the\u00a0Hawks and the NPA are determined to launch a strong case against\u00a0Gordhan and his co-accused.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGordhan and his former Sars deputy, Ivan Pillay, will be charged before Christmas,\u201d stated the report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe charges laid against them will include fraud, defeating the ends of justice, and contravention of the Regulation of Interception of Communications and Provision of Communication-Related Information Act.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The City Press said the NPA has allocated four prosecutors \u2013 all from the Priority Crimes Litigation Unit, which Abrahams used to head \u2013 to lead the investigation team.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Deputy Finance Minister is next<\/h3>\n<p>According to a report by the Sunday Times, Deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas, ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe, and party treasurer Zweli Mkhize are also\u00a0being investigated by the Hawks, following the release of the State Capture report.<\/p>\n<p>The report stated that the three are being\u00a0probed for \u201cfailing to report Jonas\u2019s sensational claim that one of the Gupta brothers, Ajay, offered him a R600-million bribe\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Hawks spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi confirmed the investigation, which falls under the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act.<\/p>\n<p>The report stated that the move is seen as a \u201cfightback strategy\u201d by\u00a0President Jacob Zuma\u2019s supporters.<\/p>\n<p>Political analysts have stated that their is growing discontent among ANC members over Zuma as head of the party and as president of the country.<\/p>\n<p><em>The full reports are in the City Press and Sunday Times of 6 November 2016.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Read this: <a href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/142261\/state-capture-report-reveals-2-alarming-realities-in-south-africa\/\" target=\"_blank\">State capture report reveals 2 alarming realities in South Africa<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan will be charged for establishing a \u201crogue unit\u201d in Sars in 2007, according to a report by the City Press.
