{"id":14281,"date":"2012-06-01T14:01:31","date_gmt":"2012-06-01T12:01:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=14281"},"modified":"2012-06-01T14:03:20","modified_gmt":"2012-06-01T12:03:20","slug":"nokia-hits-back-at-google-patent-comments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/14281\/nokia-hits-back-at-google-patent-comments\/","title":{"rendered":"Nokia hits back at Google patent comments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Nokia\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1650-Nokia-Corporation\">Nokia<\/a> struck back at <a title=\"Google\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1719-Google\">Google<\/a> on Friday over its accusation that the cellphone maker was colluding with <a title=\"Microsoft\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1715-Microsoft\">Microsoft<\/a> to make money out of their patents.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Though we have not yet seen the complaint, Google&#8217;s suggestion that Nokia and Microsoft are colluding on intellectual property rights is wrong,&#8221; Nokia spokesman Mark Durrant said on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Both companies have their own intellectual property rights portfolios and strategies and operate independently.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He also said that some <a title=\"Android Mobile Oerating System\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/221979-Google-Android\">Android<\/a> devices had &#8220;significant (intellectual property) infringement issues&#8221; relating to Nokia&#8217;s patents.<\/p>\n<p>Google, in a formal complaint to the European Commission, said Microsoft and Nokia had transferred 1,200 patents to MOSAID, a so-called &#8220;patent troll&#8221; which makes money by taking legal action over patent infringements.<\/p>\n<p>Nokia and Microsoft cooperate on smartphones that compete with Google&#8217;s Android devices.
