According to historian Niall Ferguson, the same conditions that led to shock political moves in 2016 &#8211; yes to the Brexit, Trump as US president &#8211; are present in SA, and all it would take is charismatic leader to play on populist ideas to grab power.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>While dodging almost every question thrown at him relating to the state capture report, president Jacob Zuma revealed in Parliament on Monday that he has &#8216;reprimanded&#8217; mining minster Zwane, for issuing a statement on behalf of Cabinet. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/ewn.co.za\/2016\/11\/15\/da-zuma-should-have-fired-zwane\">However, opposition parties are unhappy, saying that the secret reprimand is not enough, and that the minister should have been fired<\/a><\/strong>. Both Zuma and Zwane are implicated in the state capture report.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>As extreme weather conditions keep pelting Gauteng &#8211; <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.enca.com\/south-africa\/over-50-houses-damaged-as-minor-tornado-rips-through-ennerdale\">such as a rare tornado ripping through Ennerdale in the south of Joburg<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; the city said <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iol.co.za\/motoring\/industry-news\/joburg-wont-compensate-flash-flood-motorists-2089792\">it will not be compensating those affected by flash floods<\/a><\/strong>. About 150 cars were damaged in the floods, but because it was due to natural causes, the city said there was nothing it could do. City roads are built to international standards, but not to withstand flooding of this magnitude, which is is said to be a &#8216;once in a century&#8217; event.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The Vaal dam&#8217;s water levels have risen, thanks to heavy rainfall in Gauteng in the past week &#8211; however the department of water and sanitation say the province is far from safe. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/ewn.co.za\/2016\/11\/15\/gauteng-residents-urged-to-continue-using-water-sparingly\">The Vaal&#8217;s water levels have climbed to above 26%, but residents in Joburg and surrounding areas have been warned to keep water consumption low, as water restrictions remain in place.<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>South Africa&#8217;s rand weakened on Monday, extending losses from the previous week as currency and bond markets in the United States rallied on growing bets that Donald Trump will ramp up spending to boost growth in the world&#8217;s largest economy. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.xe.com\/currencycharts\/?from=USD&amp;to=ZAR\">On Tuesday the rand was trading at R14.29 to the dollar, R17.85 to the pound and R15.37 to the euro<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What are the chances of Julius Malema being South Africa&#8217;s next president?
