{"id":143731,"date":"2016-11-21T19:00:33","date_gmt":"2016-11-21T17:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=143731"},"modified":"2016-11-21T17:31:33","modified_gmt":"2016-11-21T15:31:33","slug":"these-are-the-most-popular-cars-in-south-africa-for-under-r200000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/motoring\/143731\/these-are-the-most-popular-cars-in-south-africa-for-under-r200000\/","title":{"rendered":"These are the most popular cars in South Africa for under R200,000"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A poll conducted by BusinessTech shows that the majority of South Africans have a budget of R100,000 &#8211; R200,000 when it comes to buying a &#8216;new&#8217; vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>BusinessTech readers were presented with the following question: How much did you spend on your last car?<\/p>\n<p>3,008 votes turned up the following results:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>R100,000 toR 200,000\u00a0&#8211;\u00a01,050 &#8211; <strong>35%<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Under R100,000\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0786 &#8211; <strong>26%<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>R200,000 to R400,000\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0665 &#8211; <strong>22%<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>R400,000 to R500,000\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0254 &#8211; <strong>9%<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>R500,000\u00a0or more\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0253 &#8211; <strong>8%<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Data published by credit bureau Compuscan, shows that the average vehicle loan granted to South Africans over the past year amounts to <strong>R272,182.16<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>WesBank data meanwhile shows that the average deal for used cars in SA is roughly between R180,000 &#8211; R188,000 over the past year. The bank process far more than twice the number of loan applications for used vehicles, than new vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Using the latest Naamsa data for new vehicle sales in SA in October BusinessTech looks at the most popular new cars for sale for under R200,000.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from its love for bakkies, most notably the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux, the Polo Vivo is the best selling &#8216;car&#8217; in South Africa, and has been for a long time.<\/p>\n<p>Price and reliability are probably the two biggest selling features of any vehicle, making the Polo Vivo a no-brainer.<\/p>\n<p><em>Note: The order of the vehicles listed below are in relation to their popularity in SA &#8211;
