Former Springbok rugby player Joost van der Westhuizen is set to add his personalised number plate to a collection of rare registration plates up for auction this week.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

South African appraiser and auction house<\/span> Stephan Welz & Co will on Tuesday auction off some of the country\u2019s most expensive number plates at an event in Johannesburg. And according to Wheels24<\/a>, van der Westhuizen’s 9-GP is now also up for sale.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

The former Bok scrum-half, who is suffering from a rare motor neuron disease, is believed to have caught wind that plates 1-GP through to 8-GP were up for sale and decided to add his plate to the list.<\/span><\/p>\n

Welz & Co described the collection as \u201cSouth Africa\u2019s most valuable number plates\u201d, with Van der Westhuizen\u2019s plate expecting to attract bids of between R120,000 and R150,000, and the overall collection expected to be worth R2.5 million.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe price of SA\u2019s most valuable plate (1- GP) is expected to fetch well over the R1 million mark with SA\u2019s top business elite, royalty, investors and even government officials vying for one of these prize possessions,\u201d the auction house said.<\/p>\n

Additional plates up for auction include Mandela GP, and 911 GP.<\/p>\n

The auction will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday (22-23 November 2016) on the fourth floor of the South Tower, Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton.<\/p>\n
