JSE-listed independent school group Curro Holdings, said on Monday that it has acquired a 50% stake in Botswana-based BA Isago University.<\/p>\n
Curro which has 47 campuses or 110 schools and more than 42,000 learners, acquired, the university via its wholly-owned subsidiary The Embury Institute for Higher Education.<\/p>\n
Embury is a registered and accredited institute for higher education
\nfocusing primarily on teacher education.<\/p>\n
BA Isago University was established in Botswana in 2002 and operates from four campuses – Gaborone, Fancistown, Serowe and Maun. It has approximately 3,000 students and intends to expand to accommodate about 6,000 students.<\/p>\n
“The BA Isago University acquisition aligns with Curro\u2019s business strategy
\nand offers a strong Faculty of Education,” Curro said in a statement.<\/p>\n
The group said its vision is to have 200 schools \/80 campuses by 2020.<\/p>\n
The private education sector in South Africa is beginning to see rapid growth. Last week, Pembury Group announced<\/a> that it had received approval from the JSE Limited to proceed with an application to list on the Alternative Exchange (AltX).<\/p>\n In 2014, Pembury Lifestyle Group launched PLG Schools which has since grown to seven campuses with 19 schools.\u00a0 Its schools offer a co-ed learning environment with a maximum of 25 learners per class, from Pre-Primary to Matric, with English as the primary language of instruction.<\/p>\n PLG Schools currently operates in Gauteng and the North West Province. In 2017, the group will open three new campuses in Centurion, Roodepoort and Springs; taking the number of campuses to seven, with 19 schools.<\/p>\n The school will have 2,200 pupils by next year, up from 420 two years ago, and double its content in 2016.<\/p>\n Curro targets private universities in SA by 2019<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\nMore on education<\/h3>\n
