{"id":143879,"date":"2016-11-21T12:35:03","date_gmt":"2016-11-21T10:35:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=143879"},"modified":"2016-11-21T12:35:03","modified_gmt":"2016-11-21T10:35:03","slug":"curro-eyes-international-growth-with-botswana-university-stake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/143879\/curro-eyes-international-growth-with-botswana-university-stake\/","title":{"rendered":"Curro eyes international growth with Botswana university stake"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>JSE-listed independent school group Curro Holdings, said on Monday that it has acquired a 50% stake in Botswana-based BA Isago University.<\/p>\n<p>Curro which has 47 campuses or 110 schools and more than 42,000 learners, acquired, the university via its wholly-owned subsidiary The Embury Institute for Higher Education.<\/p>\n<p>Embury is a registered and accredited institute for higher education<br \/>\nfocusing primarily on teacher education.<\/p>\n<p>BA Isago University was established in Botswana in 2002 and operates from four campuses &#8211; Gaborone, Fancistown, Serowe and Maun. It has approximately 3,000 students and intends to expand to accommodate about 6,000 students.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The BA Isago University acquisition aligns with Curro\u2019s business strategy<br \/>\nand offers a strong Faculty of Education,&#8221; Curro said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The group said its vision is to have 200 schools \/80 campuses by 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The private education sector in South Africa is beginning to see rapid growth. Last week, Pembury Group <a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/finance\/143202\/another-schools-group-to-list-on-the-jse\/\" target=\"_blank\">announced<\/a> that it had received approval from the JSE Limited to proceed with an application to list on the Alternative Exchange (AltX).<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, Pembury Lifestyle Group launched PLG Schools which has since grown to seven campuses with 19 schools.\u00a0 Its schools offer a co-ed learning environment with a maximum of 25 learners per class, from Pre-Primary to Matric, with English as the primary language of instruction.<\/p>\n<p>PLG Schools currently operates in Gauteng and the North West Province.
