Mobile phone-bill-optimisation company Tariffic estimates that local companies are wasting more than R3 billion a year on their mobile phone spend.<\/p>\n
Tariffic\u2019s CEO Antony Seeff said they have received feedback from companies that it is \u201cimpossible for them to manage their company spend, their abuse, and their upgrades\u201d.<\/p>\n
Seeff said their\u00a0Tariffic Online product, a \u201cCellular Management Platform\u201d, can help companies curb wasteful expenditure.<\/p>\n
The company calculated that, of the contracts it\u00a0has analysed, each contract\u00a0wastes approximately R280 per month.<\/p>\n
One of the saving areas is ensuring employees have the correct data bundles added on to their contracts, as out-of-bundle rates are much higher than in-bundle prices.<\/p>\n
Tariffic also indicated that 11% of corporate lines analysed have no usage.<\/p>\n
\u201cUsually when an employee leaves a company or moves roles, the SIM cards then land up gathering dust in a desk drawer somewhere while the company is still charged every month,\u201d said\u00a0Seeff.<\/p>\n
Another problem area is \u201cextra costs\u201d, where employee contracts are being charged for WASP services, for example.<\/p>\n
Employees abusing their contracts can lead to a company\u2019s budget being drained \u2013 this includes high data usage and airtime transfers.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have even found some employees doing airtime transfer off their SIM cards to other people of more than R25,000 per month.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tariffic stated that Vodacom continues to own the lion\u2019s share of the corporate cellphone market in South Africa.<\/p>\n
\u201cMore than 80% of all corporate contracts analysed by Tariffic over the years belong to the Vodacom network.\u201d<\/p>\n
