Teraco Data Environments (Teraco)<\/a> MD Lex van Wyk<\/a> said that business has been very good so far this year, and he expects this trend to continue.<\/p>\n

Teraco already has all of South Africa\u2019s major telecommunications players as clients, and has launched initiatives like its Africa Cloud eXchange (ACX) and the NAPAfrica<\/a> free and public peering facility to further boost its fortunes.<\/p>\n

Teraco\u2019s Africa Cloud eXchange (ACX) offers cloud services throughout Africa using the company\u2019s vendor neutral DCs, and connectivity through the international cable systems.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur facilities in South Africa already boast connectivity to all the undersea cables offering a combined 28 landing points along the East and West coasts of the continent. This in effect means the Africa Cloud eXchange is already in operation,\u201d said van Wyk.<\/p>\n

The company\u2019s NAPAfrica peering facility is also gaining momentum, and has grown traffic volumes from 64Mbps to over 300Mbps over the last few months.<\/p>\n

Strong growth expected<\/strong><\/p>\n

The outsourced hosting environment is fiercely competitive in South Africa, but van Wyk is confident that their unique selling point of being vendor neutral stands them in good stead.<\/p>\n

Van Wyk explained that the network providers already make more money from Teraco (by selling services to hosting clients) than Teraco makes, clearly showing the benefit of the company\u2019s business model for its partners.<\/p>\n

There is also a lot of room for growth, said van Wyk. \u201cThere is around 36,000 square meters of outsourced data centre space in SA, with ten times that when it comes to in-house hosting,\u201d said van Wyk.<\/p>\n

With the growth in online services, it is only a matter of time before companies doing in-house hosting will need more hosting space. They will then have to decide whether to build themselves, or to outsource.<\/p>\n

Van Wyk is confident that their value proposition is good enough to encourage companies to outsource their hosting to Teraco.<\/p>\n

The Teraco MD is also in discussions with many of South Africa\u2019s large banks, and he is positive that they will soon become clients of the company.<\/p>\n

Van Wyk said that they are on track to fill around 6,000 square meters of data centre space by 2015, with even further growth expected after this milestone.<\/p>\n
