Three ministers in Zuma’s cabinet have been revealed to be leading the charge to get the president recalled at the ANC’s extended NEC meeting – and support for the motion is reportedly\u00a0stronger than expected.<\/p>\n
This is according to various insider\u00a0reports from within the NEC, including inside information given to News24 naming the ministers<\/a><\/strong> – as well as reports from Independent Media on how many NEC members are said to be supporting and opposing the motion<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n According to News24,\u00a0tourism minister Derek Hanekom, health minister Aaron Motsoaledi and public works Minister Thulas Nxesi are pushing for\u00a0Zuma to resign. It was reported on Sunday that Hanekom was the one who formally tabled the motion, but it is understood that \u00a0all three ministers are on the same page.<\/p>\n They were strongly supported by ANC chief whip Jackson Mthembu, the media group said, which aligns with previous statements from Mthembu, expressing his view that the entire ANC NEC should step down.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, other insiders are delivering information on how many NEC members are supporting or opposing a vote on the motion. According to Iol, 20 speakers have come forward to support the motion, while 20 speakers have also come forward to oppose it, leaving an actual vote uncertain.<\/p>\n The ANC has extended its NEC meeting by an extra day, to Monday, to debate, and possibly vote on the issue.<\/p>\n Surprisingly, Iol reports that the anti-Zuma camp may be able to gather as many as 54 votes against president Zuma – while the pro-Zuma camp can only muster 40 votes.<\/p>\n The group reported that many NEC members who are not present would either side with the anti-Zuma camp, or stay away completely to avoid being a part of the process altogether.<\/p>\n It quoted insiders as saying the tone among those opposed to Zuma is “jubilant”, as they are convinced that Zuma will be recalled by the end of Monday.<\/p>\n The ANC said that it will brief the media once the NEC meeting concludes on Monday.<\/p>\n
