also listing those who came to defend him.

While the ANC is set to hold a briefing on the outcomes of its NEC meeting at 14h00 on Tuesday, it is unlikely that the party will divulge much on the highly divisive, and hotly contested debate on Zuma’s fitness to hold office.

However, what cannot be said through official party communications has been leaking all over the place, with insiders more than willing to talk and name the politicians on both sides of the Zuma-recall debate.

News24 reported on Sunday that the charge to get Zuma recalled was headed by three main players – tourism minister, Derek Hanekom (who table the official motion), health minister, Aaron Motsoaledi, and public works Minister Thulas Nxesi.

The motion to recall the president caught his supporters by surprise, but reportedly kicked them into action, dominating much of the third day of the meeting defending Zuma.

Among the list of Zuma’s supporters are well known pro-Zuma factions – including the so-called ‘premier league’ (Ace Magashule and Supra Mahumapelo), as well as other ministers.

AU chair and prospective successor to Zuma, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, was also present to speak in the president’s defence – while The Huffington Post South Africa is reporting that finance minister Pravin Gordhan stood with the anti-Zuma crown in calling for the president to go.

According to the various reports, citing NEC insiders, these are the people in the pro-Zuma and anti-Zuma camps.

Tourism minister, Derek Hanekom

People who spoke against Zuma

Minister of Tourism, Derek Hanekom

Minister of Health, Aaron Motsoaledi

Minister of Public Works, Thulas Nxesi

Minister of Finance, Pravin Gordhan

Gauteng ANC chair, Paul Mashatile

Former Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Enoch Godongwana

Deputy Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Kebby Maphatsoe

ANC chief whip, Jackson Mthembu

Free State premier, Ace Magashule

People who defended Zuma

Free State premier, Ace Magashule

North West premier, Supra Mahumapelo

Minister of State Security, David Mahlobo

Minister of Home Affairs, Malusi Gigaba

Minister of Sport and Recreation, Fikile Mbalula

African Union chair, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma

International Relations Minister, Maite Nkoane Mashabane

Agricultural Minister and SACP chair, Senzeni Zokwana

Read: Zuma wounded – but still standing as “the enemy” fails to take him out: report

The Sowetan has published a list of ANC members who stood up against president Jacob Zuma at the party’s extended NEC meeting this past weekend –
