The ANC says that it will encourage its members to approach the press ombudsman over the many media reports about the goings-on at the party’s NEC meeting, which it says are false.<\/p>\n

The party has refused to divulge any details on what was or was not said at the NEC meeting, but now claims that reports citing insiders are incorrect – in some cases naming members who were not even present.<\/p>\n

ANC spokesperson, Zizi Kodwa, told EWN<\/a><\/strong> that senior members have been advised to approach the press ombudsman to lay complaints against media houses they feel have aggrieved them.<\/p>\n

It has been widely reported that the NEC meeting was highly divisive, with knives coming out for president Jacob Zuma, sparked by a motion from tourism minister Derek Hanekom for the president to be recalled.<\/p>\n

However, at a press briefing held on Tuesday, the party put up a united front, with the official line from secretary general Gwede Mantashe that the party does not support any calls for the president to step down.<\/p>\n

Eyes are now on the president to see what action, if any, will be taken against those who are said to be opposed to him – with many analysts expecting a Cabinet reshuffle.<\/p>\n

At the press briefing, Mantashe made it clear that no minister or member of the party would suffer any consequences for voicing their views.<\/p>\n
