{"id":145501,"date":"2016-12-02T13:56:24","date_gmt":"2016-12-02T11:56:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=145501"},"modified":"2016-12-02T13:56:24","modified_gmt":"2016-12-02T11:56:24","slug":"saa-gets-new-a330-300-aircraft-four-more-are-on-the-way","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/145501\/saa-gets-new-a330-300-aircraft-four-more-are-on-the-way\/","title":{"rendered":"SAA gets new A330-300 aircraft &#8211; four more are on the way"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>South African Airways has taken delivery of its first new A330-300 aircraft on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The aircraft forms part of five new A330-300 aircraft on order which will enable the airline to expand its current route network and improve its efficiencies, the company said.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.defenceweb.co.za\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=46134:south-african-airways-first-a330-300-arrives&amp;catid=114:civil-aviation&amp;Itemid=247\" target=\"_blank\">DefenceWeb<\/a>, SAA has a fleet of 53 aircraft and was due to receive 20 new Airbus A320s but has exchanged 10 of these for the lease of five A330-300s.<\/p>\n<p>The remaining four aircraft are due to arrive later this month and early next year, SAA said.\u00a0 The 10 A320s were delivered last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA new aircraft arrival in our fleet is a special occasion and does not happen often. We are therefore very excited about the potential for growth the new arrivals will offer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCustomers will be pleased with the latest-generation on-board amenities and other cabin features on the A330-300s.\u00a0 They certainly offer customers an improved travel experience,\u201d said SAA acting CEO Musa Zwane.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/SAA2-e1480679245142.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-145511\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/SAA2-e1480679245142.jpg\" alt=\"saa2\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The A330-300s offer state-of-the-art technology, are environmentally friendly, and are super-comfortable. Interiors are striking in warm, neutral colours and finishes to provide a comfortable, elegant, hospitable and relaxed ambience, leaving customers feeling well rested after long flights.<\/p>\n<p>In SAA\u2019s configuration, the aircraft has capacity for 249 passengers, with 46 in premium Business Class and 203 in Economy Class.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/SAA1-e1480679258800.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-145509\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/SAA1-e1480679258800.jpg\" alt=\"saa1\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Seating in Business Class cabins is in a staggered 1-2-1 configuration, offering increased privacy and providing all Business Class passengers with direct access to the aisle.<\/p>\n<p>The A330-300s offer more Business Class seats than the largest aircraft in SAA\u2019s current fleet.<\/p>\n<p>The latest model A330-300s feature an increased 242-tonne maximum take-off weight and have an extended range of 6 350 nautical miles (11 750km) \u2013 typically routes of up to 11 hours \u2013 compared with previous versions of the aircraft.
