{"id":145729,"date":"2016-12-05T10:34:08","date_gmt":"2016-12-05T08:34:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=145729"},"modified":"2016-12-05T10:34:08","modified_gmt":"2016-12-05T08:34:08","slug":"da-in-bid-to-force-zuma-to-institute-state-capture-inquiry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/145729\/da-in-bid-to-force-zuma-to-institute-state-capture-inquiry\/","title":{"rendered":"DA in bid to force Zuma to institute state capture inquiry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The DA will not only oppose the president\u2019s application to have the Public Protector&#8217;s State of Capture report set aside, but will also approach the Constitutional Court to force him to appoint an inquiry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will file papers today to compel President Jacob Zuma to appoint a commission of inquiry immediately,\u201d DA federal chairperson James Selfe said on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Last week Zuma filed an application with the high court to have the report, compiled by former public protector Thuli Madonsela, reviewed and set aside.<\/p>\n<p>He said it was not the public protector\u2019s role to get involved in the terrain of the executive.<\/p>\n<p>Madonsela was looking into allegations of an improper relationship between the president and the influential Gupta family in relation to key appointments in his Cabinet and the awarding of contracts at state owned enterprises.<\/p>\n<p>The former public protector said she didn\u2019t have the necessary resources to finish her investigation into state capture and recommended a judicial inquiry, which was to be appointed by the president.
