{"id":146053,"date":"2016-12-07T06:48:09","date_gmt":"2016-12-07T04:48:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=146053"},"modified":"2016-12-07T10:19:27","modified_gmt":"2016-12-07T08:19:27","slug":"sanral-to-cancel-all-roadworks-over-the-holiday-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/motoring\/146053\/sanral-to-cancel-all-roadworks-over-the-holiday-season\/","title":{"rendered":"Sanral to cancel all roadworks over the holiday season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sanral has announced that it will postpone all road works and construction over the holiday season in effort to cut down on &#8216;stop-and-go&#8217; distractions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConstruction work has been halted across the 21\u00a0946km of freeways to improve safety and promote trouble-free journeys for people who will travel to holiday destinations\u201d said Vusi Mona, spokesperson of the South African National Roads Agency (Sanral).<\/p>\n<p>The network stretches from the Beit Bridge Border Post in the north to the Cape Peninsula and from Alexander Bay in the west to the coastlines of Mozambique, KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape.<\/p>\n<p>Sanral has also announced plans to improve the quality of long-distance travel in the country with the introduction of \u00a0automated payment systems at most plazas on the country&#8217;s toll roads.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Automated payment can cut up to two hours on a journey from Polokwane to Durban, said Mona.
