This is the lowest number of subscribers since 1996.<\/p>\n<p>Since the year 2000 there has been a steady decline in fixed-line numbers despite an economic boom from 2003 to 2007 and the launch of <a title=\"ADSL - Asymmetric digital subscriber line\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2225-ADSL-Asymmetric-digital-subscriber-line\">ADSL<\/a> in late 2002.<\/p>\n<p>What should be of particular concern to Telkom is that every segment of its fixed line business declined, as shown in the table below.<\/p>\n<div class=\"table-responsive\"><table class=\"table\" steady decline in fixed line numbers since the turn of the century has been blamed on many factors including competition from mobile services, copper theft and tough economic conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The
