The ANC Youth League have called for Northern-KZN’s Blythedale Beach to have its name-changed following a racist incident in the area over the\u00a0December holidays.<\/p>\n
Holidaymaker Abram Makola\u00a0said he was stopped shortly before Christmas despite him informing security that he and his family were tenants, reports Times Live<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n Makola said while he didn’t object to searches in the interest of beach safety\u201a security was not consistent because a white family behind him in a queue to get onto the beach was not searched.<\/p>\n The ANCYL subsequently accused the Blythedale Beach Residents and Ratepayers Association of seemingly targeting black beach visitors, and have called for\u00a0Blythedale Beach to be renamed in honour of Bonga Zungu\u201a a local youth leader and councillor.<\/p>\n \u201cThe beaches along the north coast were often used by rich\u201a white minorities who indulge in alcohol in an excessive manner and like nobody\u2019s business and yet no one says anything to them\u201a\u201d said Regional secretary Musa Zondi.<\/p>\n Zondi said while his party would not condone public indecency\u201a public drinking and litter\u201a these issues were faced at other coastal towns\u201a including Tinley Manor\u201a Zinkwazi\u201a Thompson\u2019s Bay and Ballito\u201a and visitors were not subjected to the same stop-and-searches as at Blythedale Beach.<\/p>\n
