{"id":149531,"date":"2017-01-09T13:32:22","date_gmt":"2017-01-09T11:32:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=149531"},"modified":"2017-04-10T16:15:15","modified_gmt":"2017-04-10T14:15:15","slug":"how-much-you-could-earn-based-on-your-level-of-education-in-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/finance\/149531\/how-much-you-could-earn-based-on-your-level-of-education-in-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"How much you could earn based on your level of education in South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Statistics South Africa and Analytico have revealed what the average the South African can expect to earn based on their level of education.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fin24.com\/Economy\/what-you-can-expect-to-earn-with-a-matric-and-beyond-20170108\">data<\/a><\/strong> shows that there is a clear graduation in monthly salary the more educated someone is, which highlights the urgency in maintaining a high level of education, as well as addressing crises such as the staggering <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/general\/149291\/shocking-drop-out-rates-where-in-south-africa-the-fewest-kids-make-it-to-matric\/\">drop-out rate experienced in the country<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A person who has earned their matric can expect almost double the salary than someone who has an incomplete high school career (and more than double those who have dropped out before that).<\/p>\n<p>However, even seeing school through to the end won&#8217;t automatically translate to decent earning prospects. Tertiary education proves to be the key, with even a tertiary certificate resulting in a 67% jump in potential earnings &#8211; while a bachelor&#8217;s degree would see\u00a0a 330% jump.<\/p>\n<p>This was easier said than done, though, with Analytico noting that there was still an imbalance and inequality that exists among South African earners &#8211; where there is a big difference in the\u00a0standard of education being offered to the wealthiest 20%\u00a0versus the least wealthy 20%.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe current education system, instead of fighting earnings inequality, is reproducing the patterns of poverty and inequality that we are observing currently in South Africa,&#8221; the group said.<\/p>\n<p>The salaries\u00a0listed below are based on earnings data from Analytico,\u00a0covering a total sample size of 717,364 individuals with educational outcomes of Grade 8 to Bachelors level.
