{"id":149751,"date":"2017-01-10T11:56:08","date_gmt":"2017-01-10T09:56:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=149751"},"modified":"2017-01-10T12:02:21","modified_gmt":"2017-01-10T10:02:21","slug":"over-1700-people-died-on-south-africas-roads-over-festive-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/motoring\/149751\/over-1700-people-died-on-south-africas-roads-over-festive-season\/","title":{"rendered":"Over 1,700 people died on South Africa&#8217;s roads over the festive season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>1,714 deaths were recorded on South African roads over the 2016\/17 festive season, Transport Minister Dipuo Peters\u00a0revealed on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>This is a 5% increase in fatalities over the same period last year, with over 800 of the recorded fatalities occurring in early December alone.<\/p>\n<p>The majority of fatal crashes\u00a0were as a result of a single motor vehicle overturning and head on-collisions.
