{"id":15057,"date":"2012-06-11T16:30:13","date_gmt":"2012-06-11T14:30:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=15057"},"modified":"2012-06-12T12:24:49","modified_gmt":"2012-06-12T10:24:49","slug":"afriforum-halts-e-toll-legal-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/15057\/afriforum-halts-e-toll-legal-action\/","title":{"rendered":"AfriForum halts e-toll legal action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"AfriForum\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2058-AfriForum\">AfriForum<\/a> has put on hold its intended legal action on the e-tolling penalty tariff for non-registered users, the lobby group said on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>This came after Transport Minister <a title=\"Sbu Ndebele\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1948-Sbu-Ndebele\">Sbu Ndebele<\/a> officially withdrew the e-toll rates notice in die Government Gazette on May 31, CEO <a title=\"Kallie Kriel\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/422406-Kallie-Kriel\">Kallie Kriel<\/a> said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The penalty tariff was R1.75\/km for motorists who had not registered and acquired an e-tag.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This followed after AfriForum had sent an attorney&#8217;s letter to [Ndebele] on May 15 to say that AfriForum would institute legal steps if the notice were not withdrawn.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Kriel welcomed the withdrawal and said AfriForum would closely watch further developments.
