{"id":15315,"date":"2012-06-14T10:02:20","date_gmt":"2012-06-14T08:02:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=15315"},"modified":"2012-06-14T10:04:30","modified_gmt":"2012-06-14T08:04:30","slug":"nedbank-app-ready-for-late-june","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/banking\/15315\/nedbank-app-ready-for-late-june\/","title":{"rendered":"Nedbank app ready for late June?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Nedbank\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/313855-Nedbank-Group\">Nedbank<\/a>\u00a0has pushed the launch of its banking\u00a0application to &#8220;late June&#8221;, having originally scheduled to unveil its digital service in early May.<\/p>\n<p>The bank is vying to become only the third financial institution to launch an app in South Africa, after the\u00a0successful\u00a0launch by\u00a0<a title=\"FNB - First National Bank\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1730-FNB-First-National-Bank\">FNB<\/a>\u00a0and Rand Merchant Bank.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The date has been pushed out from the originally intended one&#8230; to late June,&#8221; a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>Nedbank CEO,\u00a0<a title=\"Mike Brown\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2096-Mike-Brown\">Mike Brown<\/a>, told Radio 702 at the end of February 2012 that the group would launch an app in the coming months.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have actually spent quite a long time working on developing our infrastructure to enable us to roll-out numerous apps over the top of our infrastructure. And really the area where we\u2019ve spent the most of our time, effort and energy over the last 12 years is in the security environment,\u201d said Brown.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve done a lot of work around the encryption etc. required to make sure that the security and app environment is water tight. And you will be seeing an app from Nedbank shortly, with those enhanced security features,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Banking apps in South Africa<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The anticipated release of\u00a0<a title=\"Absa\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1877-Absa-Bank\">Absa\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0banking app was delayed due to problems with its back-end system.
