The South African Post office has released its updated list<\/a><\/strong> of fees for postal services across South Africa.<\/p>\n

The new fees which will be implemented as of 1 April 2017 and will see an increase in the cost of sending of ordinary domestic and internal mail, packages, as well as the purchasing of stamps.<\/p>\n

Currently South Africans can expect to pay R36 for a sheet of domestic stamps – or R3.60 a stamp. The new prices will now see South Africans paying R39 for the same stamp sheet or R3.90.<\/p>\n

On the same day of the announced price changes, Tuesday 31 January, minister of telecommunications and postal services Siyabonga Cwele detailed the turn around strategy for the\u00a0South African Post Office (SAPO).<\/p>\n

According to Cwele, his department\u00a0was currently in the process of engaging with the National Treasury to expedite the corporatisation of the Postbank. Nominees have passed the \u2018fit and proper\u2019 process and will be appointed after following due process.<\/p>\n

In addition, he cited a drastic modernisation of the service with a focus on new businesses that are based on courier services, financial services and the internet economy.<\/p>\n

New rates for domestic letters (VAT inclusive)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Domestic parcel service<\/strong><\/p>\n

Any postal item larger than 250 x 353 mm and\/or thicker than 30mm and\/or weighing more than 1 kg will be considered a “parcel” by SAPO.<\/p>\n

SAPO will now charge R48.75 for the first kilogram for counter to counter deliveries, with an additional R6.55 charged for each additional package.<\/p>\n
