The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers South Africa (NAMMSA) has released its updated list of best-selling cars for the month of January 2017.<\/p>\n
Unsurprisingly Volkswagen maintained its position on the top of the list with the Volkswagen Polo Vivo selling 2,951 and the Volkswagen polo selling 2,734 vehicles respectively.<\/p>\n
More interesting was Ford South Africa’s sales figures following the official recall of its Kuga model on 16 January.<\/p>\n
Ford SA had faced heavy criticism over the course of December and January following a large number of Ford\u00a0Kuga’s catching fire in those two months.<\/p>\n
This resulted in\u00a0a class action lawsuit<\/strong><\/a> planned against the company, with\u00a0documents showing<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0that Ford knew about existing problems with Kuga models.<\/p>\n Despite the significant backlash, Fords overall sales weren’t heavily impacted.<\/p>\n The Ford Ranger was still the third best selling vehicle across the country with 2,677 vehicles sold – a 22 unit increase over December. In addition, the Ford Fiesta saw a significant increase in sales with\u00a01,707 vehicles, compared to 627 sold in December.<\/p>\n In fact, looking at the list of best-selling cars,\u00a0the only Ford vehicle to see a noticeable drop in sales over the period was the Kuga itself.
