The Presidency says it is outraged by utterances made by former Public Protector, Advocate Thuli Madonsela in a television interview that she is being “targeted” by President Jacob Zuma on reported deductions from her gratuity at her former place of employment, the Office of the Public Protector.<\/p>\n

Madonsela told news channel eNCA on Saturday that the current spat with her successor, Busisiwe Mkhwebane over deductions to her pension may be a result of interference from the President, the State Security Agency, or both.<\/p>\n

Presidency spokesperson Dr Bongani Ngqulunga said that the President does not play any role when it comes to salary and conditions of service of the Public Protector.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is unfortunate that Advocate Madonsela decided to use the President’s name in matters which do not involve him. The abuse of the name of the President in such a matter is preposterous and disappointing. The Presidency urges Advocate Madonsela to refrain from such conduct,\u201d said Dr Ngqulunga.<\/p>\n

According to section 2(2) of the Public Protector Act, the remuneration and conditions of service of the Public Protector are determined by Parliament.<\/p>\n
