Each month Naamsa (the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers South Africa) releases a list of the best-selling vehicles in South Africa.<\/p>\n

The list is typically dominated by familiar names such as the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, and Volkswagen Polo which can expect to sell upwards of 2,000 units a month.<\/p>\n

However, a long way down the list are brands that struggle to sell at all. While luxury marks typically expect to sell fewer units due to their exclusivity and price point, some makers have simply not been able to crack the local market.<\/p>\n

For the first time in fourteen months, the sale of new cars in January registered an increase from the same period in the previous year.<\/p>\n

The new car market sold\u00a036,794 units in January, up 4.7% – 1,661 cars – from 35,133 new cars sold in the same period in 2016.<\/p>\n

However, not all vehicle manufacturers had reason to be cheerful. Car Magazine compiled a list<\/a><\/strong> of the 12 worst-selling passenger cars (under R500,000) in January 2017:<\/p>\n
