The Institute of Race Relations has released its transformation audit, showing that\u00a0the South African workplace had already undergone radical racial transformation despite critics saying otherwise.<\/p>\n
The institute specifically pointed to\u00a0critics who claimed there was’ jobless growth’ and that the labour market was biased against black people\u00a0as “factually incorrect”.<\/p>\n
According to the report, close to 11.5 million black South Africans currently had a job in 2016 – an increase of over 100% compared to the 5 million working black South Africans in 1994.<\/p>\n
It also indicated massive transformation in management positions, with the number of black South Africans being employed in management by up 176.3% since 2001.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf transformation is said to be \u2018held back\u2019\u201a that would be primarily because of failures in education and not a lack of will\u201a\u201dsaid the IRR’s\u00a0chief operating officer\u201a Gwen Ngwenya to Times Live<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n She noted that while black South Africans accounted for 80.7% of the population\u201a they constituted only 51.4% of all people with a post-matric qualification.<\/p>\n \u201cPutting in place targets beyond the available pool of skills places an unrealisable goal for employers and will strangle South Africa\u2019s economic growth rate,” she said.<\/p>\n
