{"id":156269,"date":"2017-02-09T13:34:58","date_gmt":"2017-02-09T11:34:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=156269"},"modified":"2017-02-09T13:34:58","modified_gmt":"2017-02-09T11:34:58","slug":"what-south-africans-score-zuma-malema-and-maimane-out-of-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/156269\/what-south-africans-score-zuma-malema-and-maimane-out-of-10\/","title":{"rendered":"What South Africans score Zuma, Malema and Maimane out of 10"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new poll ranks South Africa&#8217;s political and most influential leaders, including the current president, and two potential candidates for the <span class=\"st\">next presidential elections, in 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The poll comes at an interesting time in South Africa&#8217;s political history, with a previously unencumbered ruling party, the ANC, under real threat from both the DA and EFF.<\/p>\n<p>The eNCA\/Ipsos Approval Ratings poll canvassed 3,416 adult South Africans between October and November of 2016.<\/p>\n<p>The respondents were asked to rate the following leaders on a scale of 0 to 10 &#8211; where 10 means totally for and 0 totally against:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>President Jacob Zuma<\/li>\n<li>Deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa<\/li>\n<li>Finance minister Pravin Gordhan<\/li>\n<li>DA leader Mmusi Maimane<\/li>\n<li>EFF leader Julius Malema<\/li>\n<li>Former African Union chair Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Leader_Rating-e1486629649191.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-156281\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Leader_Rating-e1486629649191.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"366\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The researchers noted that president Zuma&#8217;s popularity has waned substantially over a period of time from 5.7 at the start of his second term, to 4.0\u00a0most recently.<\/p>\n<p>They said that support for deputy president, Ramaphosa, has remained steady over the past two years &#8211; 5.1 in November 2014 vs 5.2 in November 2016.<\/p>\n<p>However, with a rating of 5.3, Dlamini-Zuma leads the popularity stakes.<\/p>\n<p>The DA&#8217;s Maimane, meanwhile, has upped his ratings from 4.3 to 4.6, while his EFF counterpart, Julius Malema, has seen his support decline a bit to 3.2, from 3.5 over the past six months<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPravin Gordhan is positively viewed as a leader and his rating is on the same level as that of the deputy president (at 5.2),&#8221;
