{"id":159689,"date":"2017-02-22T19:00:38","date_gmt":"2017-02-22T17:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=159689"},"modified":"2017-02-22T17:02:43","modified_gmt":"2017-02-22T15:02:43","slug":"new-tax-tables-for-2017-this-is-how-much-you-will-pay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/finance\/159689\/new-tax-tables-for-2017-this-is-how-much-you-will-pay\/","title":{"rendered":"New tax tables for 2017: this is how much you will pay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following the announcement of new tax changes for the 2017\/18 financial year by finance minister Pravin Gordhan, the country&#8217;s tax tables have been updated.<\/p>\n<p>One of the biggest changes announced by the finance minister is the introduction of a new tax bracket, aimed at the country&#8217;s wealthy.<\/p>\n<p>South Africans who earn more than R1.5 million a year will form part of a new tax bracket which\u00a0will be taxed at 45%, on top of limited bracket-creep relief for existing tax brackets.<\/p>\n<p>Together these changes are expected to raise and additional R16.5 billion in tax revenue, which will cover a large bulk of the R28 billion shortfall.
