{"id":16023,"date":"2012-06-21T01:44:09","date_gmt":"2012-06-20T23:44:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=16023"},"modified":"2012-06-21T10:56:16","modified_gmt":"2012-06-21T08:56:16","slug":"78-of-sa-cellphone-users-experience-dropped-calls-monthly-survey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/telecommunications\/16023\/78-of-sa-cellphone-users-experience-dropped-calls-monthly-survey\/","title":{"rendered":"78% of SA cellphone users experience dropped calls monthly &#8211; survey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new survey by <a title=\"Pondering Panda\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/3564-Pondering-Panda\">Pondering Panda<\/a> shows that 78% of South African cellphone users experienced dropped calls over the last month.<\/p>\n<p>The survey, which polled 2212 cell phone users in South Africa on the <a title=\"MXit\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2619-MXit\">MXit<\/a> platform, revealed that 78% of people who made calls experienced unexpected call termination over the last month, while 72% of people had dropped calls for calls received.<\/p>\n<p>12% of people surveyed said that they experience dropped calls &#8220;nearly all the time&#8221;, with 59% saying it happens &#8220;only sometimes&#8221;. 29% said it only happens &#8220;every now and then&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe results indicated that the level of dropped calls was similar across all four major cell phone networks,\u201d Pondering Panda said in a press statement.<\/p>\n<p>When a call is dropped, 31% of polled Mxit members said that they call back, with 10% sending an <a title=\"SMS - Short Message Service\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/289539-SMS-Short-Message-Service\">SMS<\/a>; 13% sending a &#8220;please call me&#8221;; 11% waiting for the person to call back; and 6% using MXit to send a message to the person.<\/p>\n<p>The majority of surveyed <a title=\"MXit\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/226948-MXit\">MXit<\/a> users were aged between 15 and 34 (89%).
